Getting Help With Medication Costs

One of the most important things you can do for most health conditions is to take your medication consistently, but it can be hard to take your medications if you have trouble paying for them. It can also be hard to pay your household bills if a large portion of your income goes to pay for your medications.  Prescription assistance plans can help.

Offered by many pharmaceutical companies, these programs help cover co-pays or provide discounted or even free medications to people who meet certain eligibility requirements.  Because each program is a little different, you must contact the individual manufacturer concerning eligibility requirements and the application process for the drug(s) you have been prescribed.

Here’s a small sample of the many drugs offering such programs:

Savella (milnacipran HCl)

A member of a class of medications called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), Savella is prescribed for the pain of fibromyalgia. For information about Savella’s co-pay assistance program, call 1-866-262-2709 or visit http://www.savella.com/.

Lyrica (pregablin)

A seizure medication that has proven effective for fibromyalgia pain, Lyrica has a Patient Assistance Program, which offers discounted or free medications to people who meet certain income requirements. To learn more, visit http://www.pscard.com/index.cfm/patient-assistance-program/lmx-to-pilopine/lyrica-patient-assistance/

Enbrel (etanercept)

A member of a class of medications called TNF inhibitors, Enbrel is prescribed to control rheumatoid arthritis, plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and juvenile arthritis. If you have been prescribed Enbrel and don’t have prescription drug coverage or your insurance has high co-pays, find out what options are available by calling 1-888-436-2735 or visiting https://www.enbrel.com/support/financial-assistance/

Rituxan (rituximab)

A biologic drug prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis, chronic lymphocytic leukemia and non-Hodgkins lymphoma, Rituzan offers a card to help cover the cost of insurance copays.  To learn more call 1-866-681-3261 or visit http://www.genentech-access.com/rituxan-ra/hcp/find-patient-assistance

Avonex  (interferon beta 1A)

Avonex is prescribed to reduce the number of attacks and slow the progression of multiple sclerosis. To learn about financial and insurance support services that can make Avonex more affordable, call 1-800- 456-2255 or visit https://www.pparx.org/prescription_assistance_programs/avonex_active_access
