Alcohol Is A Drug, Too |
Remember that alcohol is also a drug and when combined with other drugs the result can be dangerous. For example, using alcohol while taking anticonvulsants can put you at increased risk for a seizure; mixing NSAIDs and alcohol can increase your risk of ulcers and liver damage; combining alcohol with narcotic pain killers can lead to grogginess and difficulty breathing; and mixing alcohol with acetaminophen can lead to liver damage. In the worst cases, these interactions can be fatal.
While it may be OK to have an occasional drink while you are on medications, when in doubt, it’s best to avoid alcohol until you have spoken with your doctor. |
